My name is Dave The Ruf – I love to play, mix and scratch records and rhyme, sometimes at the same time…

I also enjoy selling records and passing them onto my clients and I have even released a few (40) records on my label and support other local musicians, artists and Dj’s…

PLANET ROCK RECORDS :

I have sold vinyl records enthusiastically since 1991 and am now retailing direct via discogs as davetheruf and at our brand new Manchester based record shop – PLANET ROCK RECORDS, come and find us round the back of an amazing artist led original victorian mill, at Unit 5 (round the back of, through the blue gates and round the back!) Wellington House, New Islington, Pollard Street East, Manchester, M40 7ES. Here’s a map for you, why not come and have a wrestle, haggle and a brew for your tunes! Hell you can even jump on the zippy metrolink. We are between Piccadilly Station and Manchester City’s ground (but nevermind, ahem).

We are open generally every Thursday, Friday and Saturday between 1 and 7pm so please send us a text to and come on down and say hello. It’s filling up with amazing records and coming together nicely. It’s great for so many of the community to be getting involved and I’m sure many amazing events, happenings, talks and playshops are going to be taking place here!

RUF BEATS MUSIC is my very own proud and loud D.I.Y. / independent and influential record label running since 1993, with 40 releases in the hip hop / trip hop / dance music / electronica genre’s – as on the current website, but you can most easily directly buy our releases via discogs. I have released records as JEEP BEAT COLLECTIVE (cut n paste / scratch up / mad beats), MINDBOMB (my vocal hip hop alias) and GODFATHER OF WEIRD (strange experimental beats) all the artists can be licensed directly. Hell we’ve even got an entry in wikipedia!

I have even had a best of triple album anthology rleased in the USA which went to the CMJ no1 spot!… it was by my group JEEP BEAT COLLECTIVE “technics chainsaw massacre”… who I represent by using my mixing and scratching skills, whilst dancing and buzzing off the music and people….

I bill myself as Dave The Ruf “the ruffest DJ in the world”  – and I have played as an awesome club / bar / radio / festival / functions DJ since I was 15 (with a glittery huge mobile DJ set up) and have an amazing DJ biography (see the gigs page). I play a wide selection of music including Soul, Funk, Ska and Punk, my beloved Hip hop and many dance music genre’s, Disco, Reggae, Pop & Rock classics plus allsorts of other madness.

I also am an accomplised WRITER for my blog, have written for various music magazines and have a number of articles / poetry that you will be able to access on here free of charge( unless for commercial use in which case, please contact me). I have written mainly music based pieces in the past but am currently editing my huge poetry antholgy Pangaea Kosima Anamnesis and its accompanying travelogue / story book. I like to journey around Planet Rock and collect music, stories and poems as I go, constantly sharing ideas, vibes and music…
