About Nicki
Musician, performer, bandleader, composer and producer. Nicki plays double bass, bass guitar and percussion. Composition work includes commissions for theatre and sound installations. Nicki is an experienced community music facilitator and project manager. Playing music all her life in every imaginable genre, Nicki is currently playing with Beating Wing Orchestra, Poppycock/The Fates and Kashash. As part of Beating Wing Orchestra, Nicki performed at the first Manchester International Festival in collaboration with Reem Kelani and two years later with Malian duo Amadou and Mariam. At MIF 2013 Nicki coordinated and performed as part of the band that accompanied the Sacred Sounds choir. As a community music facilitator Nicki draws on skills and experience in songwriting and composition, improvisation, percussion and singing. She has worked with children, young people, older people, people with dementia, refugee projects, LGBT groups, disability projects, mental well being projects and in formal and informal education settings. Nicki was co-founder of the Manchester Jazz Festival, developing and managing all aspects of the first MJF. As Participation Co-ordinator for Queer Up North international festival, Nicki developed and managed innovative projects with a range of communities and organisations. Nicki also works on school and community growing projects, designing food gardens and outdoor learning.
