CAN Young Artists

Between November 2015 and March 2016, three venues across the UK, including Birmingham Repertory TheatreYoung Vic in London and HOME in Manchester will be putting on a unique theatre production of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, as part of the World Stages Festival which was originally set up as part of the Cultural Olympiad in 2012.

As well as hosting the show, all three venues are each creating a new theatre performance using the themes in Macbeth as inspiration to create and perform work by young people from each of the three cities.

Our new theatre company includes young people aged 12 – 18 as part of this exciting performance opportunity. Previous experience would be welcome but isn’t necessary. We want to hear from young people who are interested in learning and developing new arts-based skills, working as part of a dynamic creative team and want to get involved in something new and different.

CYA @ HOME offers an intensely creative programme of workshops in drama, freestyle movement & dance, writing and spoken-word.

For those that are also interested in learning about how to shape and put on a production, you can join our Young Producers group to develop your production and leadership skills.

We’ve also programmed theatre visits, rehearsals and the final theatre piece to take place on specific days throughout the project.

The first part of this project will take place weekly at STUN Studios at Z-arts in Hulme from November 2015 until January 2016. The production will then move to HOME in the new First Street area in the city centre from January 2016 until the final show in March 2016.

Formed by the merger of two of Manchester’s best-loved arts organisations, Cornerhouse and the Library Theatre Company, our mission is to make a new home for curiosity seekers, for the love of dramatic, digital and deeply engaging; for radicals and reciprocators.

Finding HOME
HOME is a new arts venue and is part of the new First Street area in the city centre, just behind the railway arches on Whitworth Street West. It is a short walk from Oxford Road and Deansgate train stations. The nearest Metrolink station is Deansgate Castlefield.

Z-arts was formed in 2000 as a ‘creative space for young people’ with a priority on providing participatory activity. As Manchester’s venue for children and families we pride ourselves on providing a welcoming, vibrant and safe environment for the whole family to enjoy. Our mission is to inspire and enable generations of young people from Manchester and beyond to use creativity to maximise their potential.

Finding Z-Arts
Situated on Stretford Road in a prime location overlooking Hulme Park, Z-Arts is a 15 minute walk from Oxford Road Station. Buses 250, 256 and 263 run regularly at ten-minute intervals from Piccadilly Gardens and take 10 minutes to get to the Hulme Library stop which is two buildings down from Z-arts.
